TALLY MARK

Commissioned and award winner design for the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky.

The permanent installation was inspired by the ancient Asian quinary counting system during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912). This project features a large glass partition with a vinyl composition that serves as a divider between private and public spaces positioned between the offices and the college's Atrium to enhance breathing quality. The designed pattern follows the combinations of Chinese numbers from 1 to 5, a system used to create necessary numbers for calculation. The blurring effect position variates indicate the different gross of each panel. Therefore, they create a walking experience evoking the stock market fluctuations, the visual effects from digital screens, and a metaphor of the volatile financial movements.
