MAZE

Installation with hanging paper scrolls, dimensions variable. This piece serves as an archive of the repetitive learning efforts from young students in studying Chinese ancient poems and prose. The process of writing characters is blurred using large brush strokes addressing the ambivalent relationship between memorization and disconnection, a common consequence of the contemporary Chinese academic systems. As the viewer walks through the maze of the blurred poetry scrolls, the sensation of being lost in a vast sea of unclear words prevails.
